What to do in Château d'Oléron?

The campsite is 50 meters from the ocean and the Phibie lake, which is supervised all summer. The beach is located in the heart of a nature reserve.

Visit the Citadel of Château-d’Oléron with its exhibition halls open every day in summer, and its performance hall, which offers several free concerts in July and August.

In Château-d’Oléron, you will find a treetop adventure park, a fitness trail, children's playgrounds, two carousels, a mini-golf course, a city park, an orienteering course, and a skate park. You can also go horseback riding, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or take guided boat trips to discover oyster farming and the history of the bay.

The essentials of the island of Oléron

From the Les Remparts campsite, you can discover the island of Oléron, 30 kilometers long and 15 wide, as well as its 160 kilometers of cycle paths. Travel the entire island thanks to the summer shuttle (during the summer holidays).

At the exit of the campsite, take the oyster route which takes you towards the Saumonards beach with its view of Fort Boyard. Departing from the port of Boyardville, go by boat to discover the Ile d'Aix and La Rochelle, then crossing the salt marshes, stop at the church of St Georges d'Oléron and climb the 224 steps of the Chassiron lighthouse. Discover the cotinière fishing port with its multicolored boats and the fish market. Finally, visit the forest and the town of St Trojan les Bains thanks to the little tourist train and take a short detour to the Port des Salines.

Cycle paths

For your travels, consider using sustainable modes of transport.
The Île d'Oléron and the Marennes Basin boast nearly 160 km of cycle paths. Through marshes, forests, and along the coast, these trails allow you to appreciate the diverse landscapes at your own pace. Discover the detailed map of cycle paths, available for €0.50 at all the island's tourist offices. Bike rental shops are located 200 meters from our campsite near the sea on the Île d'Oléron.

Fishing on foot

Practice one of the island's flagship activities: fishing on foot. From the port of Château-d'Oléron, via the coastal path, you can practice fishing on foot (boots essential). You can fish: cockles, clams, mussels, periwinkles, shrimp, etc.

Here are some tips: each stone turned over must be put back in place otherwise the microfauna will disappear, do not plow the soil, the algae must be picked carefully (do not tear them up ), check tide times and coefficients, adapt your equipment to the weather conditions, do not leave alone or warn those around you and fish according to your needs.

Please note, certain areas are classified as "nature reserves" and fishing is prohibited there. Do not hesitate to inquire at the reception of your campsite on the island of Oléron before setting off on an adventure.

Discover the island of Oléron

The little tourist train offers you a 5 km circuit to discover the town center, the citadel with its ramparts, without forgetting the oyster port. Around thirty artisan huts are installed on the port. Every morning, you have a market in the city center and all the shops near our family campsite on the island of Oléron. Parking is free in the city center.

On your arrival, you will find at reception all the documentation you need to visit Oléron, as well as the calendar of events planned during your stay.
